Slipped and twisted my knee on the way home from work yesterday :( I have crap knees anyway (hypermobile joints or something, which is something kids have and usually grow out of) but it just gave, luckily i didnt fall on my arse or anything but it was a close call. I get why they don't grit roads that aren't main roads, but still, mine isnt some of the beaten track road, its kind of the entry road to a big block of houses, only way in or out and its completel iced over, like inches thick.
Anyway through the pain I managed to call in to work and say there was no way I was risking it again, I'd pick up emails from home, don't think they were happy but oh well, I work my guts out every other day!
So a good day to catch up on fic? Settle in with a long fic? No, because I'm too lazy to go on the hunt for something good. Instead I slept late, watched bit of tv, played Sims 3 World Adventures, then introduced Life on Mars to my sister. All in all not a wasted day, but I miss lj, I appear to be too lazy to find fic gems like I used to though, I'll just have to rely onhils and marguerite_26 and their wonderul reccing talents. What I'll do for my other fandoms I don't know... *sigh*
I used to be too lazy for uni because I was always on lj, now I'm too lazy for lj because I'm always at work... I do not like this turn of events...

So I appear to be into Harry Potter fic at the moment, for some reason I'm avoiding the Snarry and sticking with Harry/Draco (dont ask why, i dont even know, its usually the other way around)
Anywho, just came across a brilliant fic: 'Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition' by Mirabella
Author Summary: Harry returns from vacation with an unfortunate case of vampirism and must learn to cope with blood, Malfoy, and recalcitrant secretaries.
Why Read It? : I tend to avoid vampire fic, I'm kind of squeemish when it comes to blood, but this one didnt make me cringe once. Its funny and not too full of angst. The whole cast of background characters in it are there just enough that it adds rather than ditracts from the Drarry. Also, its very hot in places, whilst still retaining the edge of humour as well. Read it. Its brill :)

So apparently I've been indoctrinated into Harry Potter Cross Generation fic. Really its a whole new realm of Snarry like opportunities, but this time with Harry or Draco etc being the irresponsible adult who falls for the irresistable youth. Of course you can always ship exclusively within the next gen (Albus/Scorpius, James/Teddy etc). But for now I have discovered the wonder of Harry/Scorpius :)
This fic is the longest I've found so far at over 50K and its brilliant, follows the ups and downs (although the continual ups and downs might make some a little queasy after the initial steady start) of Harry and Scorpius' relationship after tragedy strikes the Malfoy family (starting at age eleven so run away if that scares you) and Harry takes Scorpius in.

I have a compulsion to write fic, much much fic. Why? Probably because i need to write my 10,000 word dissertation in the next two weeks (current word count? 400) then hand it in, write 3x3000 essays, get my disso back and rewrite it all by end on March....
Then several weeks of nothing, and by that i mean revision, and then some exams at the beginning of May. And then I'll be FREE!!
First thing I'm going to do: Finish Harry Potter Draco/Harry Post DH fic 'And All Over Again'
Second thing: Write another Sports Night Fic, any length, pairing, gen, I dont care, I just feel like I should
Third: Write a Demons Fic... why??? Seems like it might be fun :)
Fourth: WRITE SOMETHING ELSE! Any prompts/pairings? it'll clearly be a while but I think i'm gonna spend my year off writing :) Provide me with a starting point people! *g*

OMG Busiest day ever. Which is why I am currently printing of lecture notes and journal articles at quarter past midnight when i should be tucked up in bed so i can get up early for uni tomorrow *sigh*
ANYWAY... You know fandom has eaten your brain when... You're researching for an essay and start searching for journal articles on fandom and fan fiction. In my defense the essay is about how new media is infiltrating our every day lives and an article on fandom came up on one of my generic searches.
So from there i just kind of kept going, so far i've got five or so general articles, one on Harry Potter, one on Buffy (entitled 'Spike, sex and subtext' lolz), an Original Star Trek one about Kirk/Spock and a Janeway/Chakotay ST: Voyager one. If anyone's interested I'll probably stick up all the titles tomorrow or friday and i can email anyone a copy if they want.
I figure I only have journal access for another 5 months, why not get something useful out of it? :) Oh, if anyone wants any other articles I can search them for you if you wish! Just give me a full reference and I'll see what I can find!

WB's Alan Horn issues statement to fans in response to 'Half-Blood Prince' delay
"If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between Half-Blood Prince and the much-anticipated first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which opens in November 2010."
This is not a silver lining, this is you clearly pointing out that one of the reasons its being postponed is because you don't want to lose viewers in those 'would have been' two years because of all the money being shelled out on the two-part Deathly Hallows film.

So I got my SGA Season 4 DVDs on tuesday *dances*, I of course watched all the special features first :) they were made of win, although they disappoint me every year with the commentaries. I mean the ones with producers and directors are good and interesting, but it might be nice if a cast member had a go every now and again, the last one was like season one or two i think, cant remember. But yay for Amanda Tapping, making them all look bad, she's on a good few, once I've watched all the episodes again (*grins some more*) I'll go back and listen to those commentaries, then maybe the others....
In other news I got some of my course books for next year delivered today. I went with marketplace sellers because it was going to cost me like £200 otherwise, and this way it was about £60. The most expensive one, also a hardback arrived today, paper ripped the shreads. Why? Because they'd wrapped it in one layer of brown paper. The cover is all damaged and it's all scratched where the paper was ripped open. Ooo are they gonna hear about this on my customer feedback.
In fic writing news, I've realised I need a prologue for And All Over Again, which is a stupid thing to realise in the middle of (or near the end of) a story, but there was no other way t convey the information to the reader. I contemplated a flashback, but it just wouldnt have worked. So I no get to write young Harry & Draco right after the war :) *gets to work*
And finally, a parting fic rec. All I seem to be reading at the moment is Snarry, but there you go. No Good Deed by Maeglin Yedi.

Apart from a Harry whose exposure to the wizarding world and education has been dictated by Snape (*g*), my favourite aspect of this story (so far, as I'm only on chapter 5), is that you can see the direct contrast between canon Severus Snape (from book two-ish at the point I'm at) and futureSnape. It's made me actually quite dislike canon Snape, noooooooo, I like his complete horridness, what has this story done to me??? :)
Anywho, I highly recommend this fic, go forth and read!!!
