So, anyone technology wise out there?

I was thinking about buying a new laptop, have been for a while now.  I mean mine is adequate, but I cant make videos anymore, its run out of virtual memory and keeps having to expand, the sims doesnt work (shock horror), and if you click something 3 times or more in interent explorer it freezes and dies...

Now on top of that the charger appears to be broken... Its £30 for a new one which is kind of a lot of money to me at the moment... I mean  can afford it but it seems stupid to get one for such a crappy laptop (ok i'm exagerating, its not sooo bad but its pretty slow).
So now i'm considering getting a new one even more (which everyone thinks is stupid, like i'm buying a new one just because the battery has died, which i'm not thats just pushed me over the edge kinda)

Anyway, so I have about £500 to spend on it ish, and am gona go with pc world because they are cloest to me and cheapest, so here are my options:

I can only comment on the Dell - I have exactly the same configuration as you have listed there, although I didn't bother with MS Works since I already have Office.

I LOVE my laptop. It's my second one and it is wonderful. I talked my workplace into buying it for me before Windows XP was gone. I customized it directly on line so I could get XP. I will NEVER use Vista - I'll get a Mac first.

Vista is a hog - CPU, Memory, and has so many interfering security warnings that most people end up turning them off, thus leaving themselves unprotected.

All that I could probably handle, but I work for a lab where many images have to be reviewed and processed. Without getting too technical, basically Vista degrades picture quality to try and fight video pirates - but it hurts our processing also. We're screening for cancer. There's no way we can take a chance of misidentifying something in an image.

Anyway, that was the 'hurry' in my getting the laptop, but I never thought I'd be using it as much as I am. When my desktop died (it has also been replaced by a Dell - I normally build my own but just didn't have the time right now; the laptop was so easy to order online that I did a desktop with them too), the laptop became my main computer for a while.
