My original idea was Sam had some kind of demon blood in him generations back and his frustrations with his life and job where eeking out (some kind of psych/empathy thing) and riling up the local half-lives, so Galvin and co sort it out so he's in a coma, make the little world for him in his head, Galvin pops in now and again to keep an eye, spends more and more time there, but one day Sam wakes up and all hell breaks loose because Sammy's been getting a little bit angry in 1973 and now that he knows the truth, he's furious :)
