Teenage Boys Call it 'Soul-Bonding' by [livejournal.com profile] onelittlesleep
Authors Notes: reincarnationfic! Teenage boys on a swim team, with soul bonds. Maybe.

Quote: He sterned up, tried to ignore it, but like all things that were Merlin-related, this knowledge just itched at him, driving him completely mad.

So yes I should be working, but I'm ill and cold and tired and don't want to (I doubt my lecturers are going to accept this answer when my essays aren't up to scratch though... *sigh*)

Anyway, what I have been doing is reading fic, sooo fic rec!

Title: Requiem At Dusk
Author: [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic
Word Count: ~49,000, Rating: NC-17, Pairing: Snarry
Summary: Harry would do anything for his son, even follow in Orpheus's footsteps.

Notes: Post DH, and just amazing... I don't really know how to describe it, just read! It's fantastic :)

Hello all, perfect 6.06 Dean/Cas fic to recommend :)

Rarely Pure, Never Simple by [livejournal.com profile] moorishflower, Word Count: 3270
Summary: Alcohol, as it turns out, does not dull the effects of curses. It does, however, result in drunken phone calls to angels.

I have been hunting down 8th year HP fic and the first one I came across was brilliant :)

Master Work by [info]mahaliem
Summary: Harry's eighth-year at Hogwarts is going about as well as all the others. Someone is out to get him, Aurors keep questioning him about the final battle and, worst of all, Draco is determined to repay his life debt to Harry.
Insta-Rec

Go and read [info]devilsduplicity's The Butterfly Effect!  It's brill, bit of a 5.04 AU where Dean gets dragged back to the future again but this time with Cas in tow, cue Dean/Cas/future!Dean/future!Cas (and every variation thereof).

Author Summary: Castiel is sent to the future with Dean. Chaos ensues.

So I've just read McShep fic [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza 's Benched

It's brilliant! And is my new favourite fic of hers (a complete lie, I can never choose, they're all amazing). There's some Rodney whumping, mostly off-screen and some John angst-ing over it and much much more which I can't do justice because I'm lame! Basically it's amazing, everyone must read it! :) Also, I completely adore the ending!

So as some of you may or may not know, my absolute favourite genre of High School Musical fan fiction is CollegeFic. My absolute favourite pairing is Chad/Ryan. So for a while now I've been thinking about collaborating a list of all the college fic I have found in one post on my lj.

The Hard Prayer by[info]rheanna27

A Stargate Atlantis apocalypse AU McShep.  This fic is beyond amazing.  I haven't read much SGA recently and I usually wouldn't read something so completely different but I'm glad I did.  Rodney and John are both damaged, but in the same ways as they are normally just hugely exaggerated.  Their journey is briliant.  Made me smile and cry and want to hug the fic and the boys and never let go.

My favourite quote : "...I'll miss civilization. It was mostly crap, but a lot of it was fun crap. Now there's a fitting epitaph for humanity."

Read It!!!

So I appear to be into Harry Potter fic at the moment, for some reason I'm avoiding the Snarry and sticking with Harry/Draco (dont ask why, i dont even know, its usually the other way around)

Anywho, just came across a brilliant fic: 'Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition' by Mirabella

Author Summary: Harry returns from vacation with an unfortunate case of vampirism and must learn to cope with blood, Malfoy, and recalcitrant secretaries.

Why Read It? : I tend to avoid vampire fic, I'm kind of squeemish when it comes to blood, but this one didnt make me cringe once.  Its funny and not too full of angst.  The whole cast of background characters in it are there just enough that it adds rather than ditracts from the Drarry.  Also, its very hot in places, whilst still retaining the edge of humour as well.  Read it.  Its brill :)

So I didnt get the job I went to the interview for... and its kinda put me off my planned career path, but hey! No matter, I have more time to read fic now :)

So I am now over halfway through season four of buffy and it is brill as expected.  As for fic and pairings my #1 non-canon pairing is definitely Spike/Xander.  On screen the Buffy/Angel made me cringe I'm afraid, but still made me cry at sad bits... at the mo I'm loving Anya and Xander and I'm at the bit where Tara and Willow are just starting to hang out, I dont remember aww-ing over Tara before but she's made of win :)

In terms of fic though, I've used the wonder of google to find me some rec lists which I'm going to peruse during my leisure time (my extensive unemployed with no future prospects amount of leisure time).  Here they are for anyone interested.  I've no idea if they're any good but I guess I'll find out! :)

(1) ripewickedplum and jenn's rec list
(2) Haemotodypsia's fic rec's
(3) Shakatany's Buffy recs
(4) [profile] ladyflame_uk's fic recs
(5) [livejournal.com profile] kimberly_fan/[personal profile] kimberly_a's Favourite Spander Fics

p.s. I got me an Alex icon :) yays!! I've been resisting and resisting but finally i had to get a few Ashes to Ashes ones and even a few featuring Alex herself

EDIT: In terms of Buffy fic recs, you can (usually) never go wrong with [livejournal.com profile] epic_recs  and they have a buffy fic rec tag (which I've unfortunately already exhausted but might be handy for other people). And obviously [livejournal.com profile] crack_van  is the place to go for recs of any and every kind, their buffy tag is here

So apparently I've been indoctrinated into Harry Potter Cross Generation fic.  Really its a whole new realm of Snarry like opportunities, but this time with Harry or Draco etc being the irresponsible adult who falls for the irresistable youth.  Of course you can always ship exclusively within the next gen (Albus/Scorpius, James/Teddy etc).  But for now I have discovered the wonder of Harry/Scorpius :)

This fic is the longest I've found so far at over 50K and its brilliant, follows the ups and downs (although the continual ups and downs might make some a little queasy after the initial steady start) of Harry and Scorpius' relationship after tragedy strikes the Malfoy family (starting at age eleven so run away if that scares you) and Harry takes Scorpius in.

No Word Tender Enough by [livejournal.com profile] snarkyscorp  is one of my fav next gen stories that I've come across.  Give it a go if you're that way inclined!!!

I originally started reading Teddy/James nextgen fic but kind of lost that pairing somewhere...*wanders off to find it *

So I finally got a new laptop! *dances*

HOWEVER, apparently whilst i was backing up all my bookmarks it failed to copy over my file full of links to Supernatual and Life on Mars rec lists.  Though it kept SGA, Smallville, Trek and Harry Potter.  I'm pretty sure i also had a folder for Due South and Sports Night but i can't really remember (yes i know i look at it almost everyday, how i can forget i dont know)

Soooo, can anyone help me? I was only halfway through the first of the Supernatural lists and i had several (by who i can't remember!)  Does anyone have any good rec lists and/or recs they could give me links to?

Just been watching Merlin videos on youtube, and omg I had forgotten my love for the show and the boys and OMG I want more, but i cant afford DVDs and have pretty much exhausted youtube... the fandom in terms of fic is now so immense that its kind of terrifying to even begin to start navigating.... help?  Recs?

Also just read [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza 's Sheppard's Law, its brilliant, amazing and fantastic *grins*  Even when I'm beginning to feel like I've read so much fic in the SGA fandom that I cant take anymore I can always read more by [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza .  Its an amazing fic, made me laugh and cry and just go and read it now.

Now I need to get back to quietly panicking over my incomplete dissertation which I'm completely stuck and is due in two weeks, and an essay and OMG WHAT AM I DOING ON LJ??? *despairingly disconnects wireless* .... who am I kidding, I cant disconnect my internet.

Also, I'm panicking over what to do with my life and have seen an interesting masters on film, tv and cult media.  But many have asked the question how would this help me with my career/life etc.  Can anyone give me a satisfactory answer to this question that I can use so I can justify the expense in terms of time and money to do this degree for a year?  Other options inclue and MA in Journalism, or a Creative and Proffesional writing MA.  Or getting a job and saying to hell with it, I'll be boring and uneducated.

So I dont read much Star Trek fic anymore.  I was never really in the fandom, a bit to young for it, but occasionally I'll read some DS9 or Voyager.  And I just came across I, Voyager by mort, which I'd never read before but had heard of.

And it made me cry so much, at the end where it gets relatively positive, which is just a ridiculously me thing to do.  Its kind of amazing though.

I just wanted to share in case anyone on my flist was into this fandom and hadnt read it, its a must.

Ok, so didnt have the time, but I've just read a brilliant High School Musical fic by [livejournal.com profile] temira

Ryan's Three Rules (Chad/Ryan, PG-13) is brilliant and I cant even begin.... it just wins at everything, angst and pretty boys and everything :)

Go forth and read! It was totally worth the fact that I'm going to have to stay up to the early hours of the morning to get all my work done now :)

So I dont read that much Torchwood/Doctor Who fic.  But my fave Torchwood fic is usually anything that revoloves around Ianto Jones.  And as such I've read a few  (***cut for story spoilers, but its kind of obvious from the beginning anywho***) ) Fics.  But I've just come across an amazing one, which is just entertaining all the way through and in everyway:

The Doctor and Mr. Jones by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Author Summary: The Doctor thought he was alone in the universe -- but Torchwood is about to prove him wrong.
Why Read it??:  Fantastic take on Ianto, and I love the theme of time and clocks, its written amazingly.  Set post 2.03 Torchwood so all the team are still alive and kicking.  Brilliant Doctor voice.  Space battles and Ianto kicking alien arse with oranges :)  Also the best closing line I have ever read in any fic.

I exhausted all the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van  recs for Life on Mars fic and the High School Musical tag caught my eye, i'd read all but one already but followed some links and found the best HSM fic ever :)

Happenstance by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia   Chad/Ryan slash, future college fic, made of win :)

So I got my SGA Season 4 DVDs on tuesday *dances*, I of course watched all the special features first :) they were made of win, although they disappoint me every year with the commentaries.  I mean the ones with producers and directors are good and interesting, but it might be nice if a cast member had a go every now and again, the last one was like season one or two i think, cant remember.  But yay for Amanda Tapping, making them all look bad, she's on a good few, once I've watched all the episodes again (*grins some more*) I'll go back and listen to those commentaries, then maybe the others....

In other news I got some of my course books for next year delivered today.  I went with marketplace sellers because it was going to cost me like £200 otherwise, and this way it was about £60.  The most expensive one, also a hardback arrived today, paper ripped the shreads.  Why? Because they'd wrapped it in one layer of brown paper.  The cover is all damaged and it's all scratched where the paper was ripped open.  Ooo are they gonna hear about this on my customer feedback.

In fic writing news, I've realised I need a prologue for And All Over Again, which is a stupid thing to realise in the middle of (or near the end of) a story, but there was no other way t convey the information to the reader.  I contemplated a flashback, but it just wouldnt have worked.  So I no get to write young Harry & Draco right after the war :)  *gets to work*

And finally, a parting fic rec.  All I seem to be reading at the moment is Snarry, but there you go.  No Good Deed by Maeglin Yedi.
Summary: After the war, Harry wants answers. Snape's willing to give them. For a price.
It's got just the right amount of angst, humour, romance(?? i always hesitate to use this word with Snarry, tension? not-quite-hate-filled sex?) as well as Harry showing some actual trauma, and (merlin forbid) a substantial injury from the war.  Brilliant fic.

Just a quick post to rec Once Upon a Time Turner by AbstractConcept/ the_con_cept
It's Snarry and I've totally fallen in love with it :)

Author's Summary: Snape decides he isn’t happy with the end results of the war, and starts over with a clean slate-and Harry Potter. But though he’s determined to change things, he isn’t expecting the biggest changes of all-the ones to himself.

Apart from a Harry whose exposure to the wizarding world and education has been dictated by Snape (*g*), my favourite aspect of this story (so far, as I'm only on chapter 5), is that you can see the direct contrast between canon Severus Snape (from book two-ish at the point I'm at) and futureSnape.  It's made me actually quite dislike canon Snape, noooooooo, I like his complete horridness, what has this story done to me??? :)

Anywho, I highly recommend this fic, go forth and read!!!

Once Upon a Time Turner - contents page

Ok, so whoever heard me say I was looking forward to jury service?? If i ever have to do it again and repeat similar sentiments, please, feel free to kick me in the head....

Spent the whole day sitting around waiting to be called, eventually being sent home, after being there for five and a half hours i think.  Argh.  And I have to go through it all tomorrow.  I can't wait til next week when I can actually do what I want with my time, between my two jobs and now my jury service, and before that exam revision and before that end of term essay writing, I feel like i havent had a break in months, which actually yes, i handed all my essays in in April so that was when it started. *sigh*  I know this tends to be what real life is like, but I was hoping to be eased in.... ho hum.

Anyway, last week I did manage to go and see Prince Caspian for my birthday.  And it was brilliant!  I was worried it wouldn't live up to the lion the witch and the wardrobe, but i honestly thought it was better.  They're all obviously a little more mature, and it makes the characters (and actors) much more watchable I thought.

In other news I finally saw SGA Search and Rescue, and i would take many words to express my appreciation (or not in some parts), but over all I found it enjoyable.  I also caught The Seed yesterday which whilst being a little cliche? maybe not cliche, but something like that?? - in parts i found it enjoyable, was shouting at the screen and everything :)

Whilst I've not been sitting the The Waiting Area of Doom, I've become addicted to Josephine Darcy's The Marriage Stone.  It's a Harry Potter SS/HP story (WIP), with the cliche of them being forced into marriage, but in a kind of original way.  It's safe to say I've become hooked and read chapter one through seventy in about five days I believe.  Safe to say I couldn't recommend it highly enough!!!

Finally, Smallville tomorrow night! *dances* I missed it last week due to my birthday-type happenings so I've got two new episodes (however lame they may end up being, i intend to squee anyway, there's something about that show, i just cant seem to help myself)
